Introduction to MBW Company
Our History in Community
Based Services

During the mid 70's, the Region Nine Developmental Disabilities Commission identified an overwhelming need for residential support services to meet the needs of adults with developmental disabilities in the Brown County area.  In response to this need, Mark and Brenda Wiger became owners and operators of MBW Company.

MBW on Center was developed in 1978 and Eleven Seven in 1980. These two intermediate care facilities for the mentally retarded (ICFs/MRs) provided 24-hour supervision and training for people with developmental disabilities. Eleven Seven transitioned into a 24-hour waiver site in 1994.

The MBW‑SILS program (Semi‑Independent Living Services) was developed in 1982, which provides training services on a per hour basis.

MBW SLS (Supervised Living Services-Waivered Services), was developed in 1984 providing up to 24 hour supervision and training in a smaller setting.

In 1988, Personal Care Attendant (PCA) services were established through the Extended Care Home Health Services division. A third ICF/MR, MBW-Monument, was opened in 1990 providing 24-hour supervision and training for four women with significant physical and medical needs.  The target group for all these services is adults with developmental disabilities.  In 2002, MBW saw an increase in services to children and adults with mental health issues and initiated hourly service through the CADI Waiver.

In 2005, MBW was asked to initiate 24-hour services for people with complex medical issues (requiring 24-hour nursing service). This service started in June of that year. In 2006, the company expanded to provide 24-hour services to adults with mental health issues.

In 2007, MBW Company participated in joined venture with other agencies in the area to provide assessment and evaluation services for school age children who would be leaving the school system within the coming year. This service became known as the Transition Program.

MBW Company continues to be open to new and innovative ways to provide high quality services to people with specialized needs.
